Maryland Man Convicted of Violent Crimes After Shooting Trial

|

A man has been convicted in Baltimore in connection with a late-night shooting that left two people with serious injuries and killed another. The 27-year-old man was convicted of first-degree murder, attempted murder and assault in connection with the violent crime. The man's sentencing date has been set for mid-April in connection with the January 2013 attack.

Attorneys in the case say they are disappointed that the man was convicted of the crime, considering that victims and bystanders did not consistently identify the victim. Further, the owner of the restaurant and club where the shootings occurred say he has experienced a plunge in business because of the crimes. That man explains that the crime was not related to his establishment, but his property has still received a bad reputation.

Authorities report that the defendant had been waiting for two men to exit that after-hours restaurant and club in Baltimore. When they emerged, the defendant reportedly shot the two men, seriously injuring one and killing the other. Testimony shows that the injured man was shot in the face and neck, but he was able to dodge some of the oncoming bullets. The defendant then fled in a vehicle and sought his own girlfriend. He was accused of shooting that woman in the stomach and face. She survived and provided key evidence against him in the case.

No matter how violent a crime may be, criminal defendants deserve legal protection during their trial and other legal proceedings. Criminal defense attorneys may be able to provide additional legal protection, sometimes shielding defendants from unfair prison sentences or unfounded accusations. Maryland defendants may be able to learn more about their criminal cases by consulting a criminal defense attorney.
